@jamesmiller More agnostic. I was never against it, but I’ve worked in companies and organizations where AP Style was the standard for so long… I just avoided using the Oxford comma because I’d just have to take it out later.

I’ve now done enough academic writing in grad school, that I’m starting to come around to the oxford comma.

The discussion around whether scholars should be paid for peer review mirrors discussion about the ethics of spec work in the design industry. insidehighered.com/news/2022/06/1…

I love writing with fountain pens, but I’m just not using them enough every day. I cleaned out a bunch of pens tonight and mixed up my rotation. I’m down to two fountain pens in my pen case… a TWSBI Eco with green ink and a Lamy AL-Star with black ink. ✒️

Working from a coffee shop this afternoon. Made progress on a project for the class I’m taking this semester, but ended up spending more time sketching and working on a new typeface.

@russellpeek I agree. And I’ll point out that Beasley now runs the World Food Program, trying to eliminate hunger worldwide and the organization won the Nobel Prize last year.

I finally got around to setting up Universal Control on my MacBook Pro and my iPad. I’ve got to say, it’s pretty impressive. I’m not sure how often I will use it, but I can see some situations where it will be helpful.

@robdelach Yep. Forgot that one.

@kerryrm Apparently, DC has a law on the books restricting commercial use of the flag, but it’s unenforced.

@kerryrm Alas, the whole law is a first amendment violation and it’s unenforceable. Also banned… flying a flag from a vehicle.

The U.S. Flag Code bans the use of the stars and stripes in marketing.

@gedeon Thanks for the reminder. Just did the same.

@rosemarie313 And we need to limit the types of weapons. And if you can’t drink, you shouldn’t be able to own a gun.

@rosemarie313 Yes. But regulating gun sales will help, too. No single solution here.

@kerryrm These guest articles are always spammy posts filled with phrases obviously intended to boost the SEO of their client’s site. (Obviously, I just ignore the emailed requests.)

@kerryrm My site has a handful of pages that generate a significant amount of traffic. Old InDesign tutorials. I can’t tell you how many people reach out to offer to pay me to place a guest article.

@cjlake @enewman595 @BryanVacchioJr Can they engrave emoji on the brick?

Excited that I’ll be heading to Detroit for @aejmc in August. A paper that I wrote for @jacobandrewlong’s class was accepted in the Visual Communication division, along with another one that I was a coauthor on. I’m looking forward to talking about logos.

@demozie Amazing news! Congrats.

I helped my high schooler study for her Spanish exam … I took seven years of German and don’t speak Spanish. That was interesting. I hope it helped her. 😜

@kerryrm Yes, she is. (And unfortunately she knows it. 🤣)

@kerryrm And Liz just said “What’s Linked In?”

@kerryrm I just opened Linked In to connect with you. Now we can ignore Linked In together.

I took today off for a personal “retreat.” Working on planning for the rest of the year and thinking through what I want to accomplish with my side projects, grad school and more. I need to do this more often.

@Naledgesince82 I know you aren’t talking about your graduate level class, but I really enjoyed the semester. (And the open-ended questions are definitely for the haters.)
