Some reflections on presenting via Zoom at last weekend’s #AEJMCSEC2020 conference. sketchbookb.com/journal/2020/3…
Working ≠ Thinking: sketchbookb.com/journal/2020/3…
@juliesturner @keyjbrown Oooh. Formal logo. Fancy.
@DanaDWoodward @UofSC @cjlake Nice. The brand police is temporarily suspending enforcement…
@kerryrm Yeah. If I really wanted Waffle House, I’ve still got lots of options nearby. There’s pretty much one at every exit in Columbia.
@kerryrm Yep. The one by Norah’s high school just closed. Bad omen.
🎧 Music for this week: I’m only going to listen to bands I’ve seen live. Currently listening to Midnight Oil’s Scream in Blue Live. I used to go to live shows all the time, but haven’t in years. After this is all over, I’m completely going to a live show of some sort.
I made my mom’s red velvet cake. It’s only the second time I’ve ever attempted it. 🍰 Turned out pretty great. t.co/A8Oc3XZH6…
Delivered my conference paper (virtually) at #AEJMCSEC2020. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to move this conference online at the last minute.
@kerryrm I’m thinking now is the time to learn to bake bread.
@BlondeScientist @rdbyrd80 I saw that you were headed to St. Jude. We’ll miss having you here in Columbia and I’ll be sure to forward you my “research.” St. Jude is such a great organization and they are lucky to have you.
@tldelrosso My new office mate never strays very far… t.co/OYXyQz5V0…
@rdbyrd80 I’m looking forward to it. Researched a bunch of places in Memphis to visit and eat. Can’t let all that research go to waste. 😀
Not exactly the way I expect to start #AEJMCSEC2020. I was looking forward to visiting Memphis for the first time. But I’m looking forward to connecting with everyone via Twitter and Zoom.
@BlondeScientist Thankfully, most of my needs are relatively small. With my wife and kids home, too, we basically have four home office setups and an arts and craft table.
Starting to make a list of things I need to improve my work-from-home setup. The temporary setup is fine, but after a few days of work, I can tell some areas I need to upgrade.
Listening to my wife record a Happy Birthday video for some of her kindergarteners that don’t get to celebrate with the class. It’s so incredibly sweet…
When I went to the office to grab the things I needed to work from home, I should have grabbed my office chair.
@RazManda Hmmm… High degree of difficulty. I may have to work up to that…
@kim_truett I mean, I’m going to make them both eventually…
Debating whether to make a red velvet cake or a pound cake.
First day of school from home…High Schooler: Logs into Google Classroom. Gets to work.Middle Schooler: Complains. Logs into Google Classroom. Gets to work.2nd grader: Now what do I do? Now what do I do? Now what do I do?
I’m either going to have to move my makeshift home office out of the kitchen or buy more Cheez-Its.

I’m disappointed that I won’t be visiting Memphis for the AEJMC Southeast Colloquium, but I think it’s funny that my paper on the introduction of the Linotype to rural South Carolina newspapers in the early 1900s will now be presented at a virtual conference.
